Frequently asked questions
If you have a question that isn't answered here, please get in touch, we're happy to talk things through before you decide whether an assessment is right for you.
Getting started
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can refer yourself directly, there's no need to see your GP first or to be on an NHS waiting list. If you'd like, we can share your outcome with your GP afterwards with your consent.
Who are the assessments for?
We assess adults, adolescents and children for autism (ASD) and ADHD, including combined assessments. Whether you're exploring this for yourself or for your child, our psychologists will tailor the process to the person being assessed.
How do I refer myself?
Use the "Refer yourself" button to start a short online form telling us a little about you and what you're hoping to understand. We'll review it and be in touch to arrange the next step.
What does it cost?
Fees depend on the type of assessment and who it's for. Our current prices are set out on the services page [fee to confirm], and we'll always confirm the full cost with you before anything goes ahead.
How soon can I be seen?
We aim to offer appointments promptly and to avoid the long waits common elsewhere [timescale to confirm]. Once you've made an enquiry, we'll let you know the earliest available options.
The assessment
What's involved?
A thorough assessment usually combines validated questionnaires, a detailed developmental and personal history, and a clinical interview with one of our psychologists. Everything is interpreted together so we can build a clear, individualised picture rather than relying on any single score.
Is it online or in person?
We offer assessments in a way that suits you and the person being assessed [format to confirm]. We'll talk through the options with you when we arrange your appointment.
Who else might you need to hear from?
With your consent, it can be helpful to gather collateral information from someone who knows you well, such as a partner, parent or, for children, a school. This adds useful perspective across different settings, though we'll always agree what's shared in advance.
How long does it take overall?
The process typically unfolds across the questionnaires, the interview and the write-up of your report [timescale to confirm]. We'll give you a clear timeline at the outset so you know what to expect at each stage.
After your assessment
What do I get at the end?
You'll receive a written report setting out the assessment, the findings and clear, practical recommendations. We also offer a feedback session to talk through the results and answer your questions in plain language.
Do you prescribe medication?
Our psychologists carry out assessments and provide formulations and recommendations; they do not prescribe medication [to confirm whether medication or titration is offered]. Where medication may be relevant, we can explain the options and signpost you to appropriate prescribing services.
Can you provide letters for school, work or DSA?
Where it's clinically appropriate, we can provide supporting documentation to accompany your report [to confirm]. Let us know early on what you need so we can advise on what we're able to offer.
What if I don't meet the criteria?
Not everyone who is assessed meets the criteria for autism or ADHD, and that's a valid and useful outcome. You'll still receive a clear formulation that helps explain your experiences and points towards support that may help.
How is my information kept private?
Your information is handled confidentially and in line with data protection law, and results are only shared with others with your consent. You can read more in our privacy notice.
Still have a question?
We're happy to help you work out whether an assessment is the right next step. Start by referring yourself, or send us an enquiry and we'll get back to you.
